Animal Crushing Definition
Animal crushing is the brutal act of torturing animals—often small animals such as kittens, puppies, rabbits, and mice—in various ways. Videos often feature women in high heels stepping on small animals and crushing them.
But the violence doesn’t stop there. A puppy being burned alive. A cat being nailed to the floor. These are some of the horrific examples of animal crushing videos and pictures that have been circulating on the Internet.
Preventing Animal Cruelty and Torture Act
The good news is that the US Senate recently passed the bipartisan Preventing Animal Cruelty and Torture Act (PACT ACT) by unanimous consent on December 10, 2016.
As the first general animal anti-cruelty bill, the PACT Act will prohibit the intentional engagement in animal crushing within American territorial or special maritime jurisdictions, or affecting interstate/foreign commerce.
The current law only prohibits knowingly creating or distributing animal crush videos. The new Act defines the term “animal crushing” as when “one or more living non-human mammals, birds, reptiles, or amphibians is purposely crushed, burned, drowned, suffocated, impaled, or otherwise subjected to serious bodily injury.”
There will be several exceptions including normal veterinary/agricultural practices, slaughtering for food, animal sports activities, protection of human life, or medical/scientific research.
Penalties for violations will be fines and/or imprisonment of not less than 7 years.
The PACT Act is currently pending a vote by the House before it can hit the President’s desk.
The PACT Act is one more step in the right direction in fighting animal cruelty.
